Texans, how do you deal with this?
Hotel DealsBye-Bye asked:
So, I was driving through Texas and had to stop in Amarillo for one night. As soon as I checked in to a motel, HUGE hail stones fell from the sky and dented my car. Is this normal in Texas? If so, how do people protect their autos? Do you constantly have to go to the auto body shop for repairs?

I live in Amarillo. Yeah, our weather’s horribly unpredicatable, we’ve got 60 mile an hour winds, and what you would call “mood swings” with our weather, it can be sunny one minute and the next pouring down rain. I have actually never gotten a hail dent in my car, but it does save us money on buying new cars when they get hail damage and the dealers drop the price. Even with all the hail, a lot of people don’t have garages, we just deal with the little dents.

Seeing that Amarillo is about 700 miles to Houston, I don’t deal with this kind of thing.
We get hail once in a while, but it is no big deal. We have insurance to cover stuff like this (at least I always have).

It doesn’t happen all that often. It was unfortunate that it happened to you when you were simply passing through this town.

I’ve never seen such big hail here so I would say no, it’s not normal.
If we are going to get any severe weather we usually get a warning and do whatever it takes to protect our belongings, like garage the car.

Not constantly & I think insurance might cover it.
