If you can afford it, there are some pretty snazzy beach houses and pristeen beaches between Galveston and Surfside. There’s also a smal public beach there, but there’s not a lot of anything else. Pack a lunch and bring a ite. Also, if you can get a 4 wheeler, go to San Louis Pass. Good sand, nice water, but be careful of very powerful undertows. It’s quie a drive to get there, so not a lot of people go there.

Galveston beach is the closest to Houston. Look on a map and you will see that it isn’t far.

Galveston is brown water but has touristy things to do
surf side is a quieter, less populated beach but doesn’t have much to do except the beach

South Padre is the prettiest. The water in the summer is aqua or blue and about a 5 hour drive.

But beware … cheap hotels can be trouble some times so check reviews of the hotel your are
going to book.
