Which travel web site has the best deals for hotel/air fare for travel in the US?

Need to take about a 4 day trip from TX and am on a tight budget.
Which is most reliable? Am a little afraid of internet shopping.

Generally, I use travelocity, but I would shop around if I were you. Sometimes you can get better deals from one place one time and another at another time. Just be willing to look around. Expedia, Hotwire, Travelocity, etc. Just look around and enter your dates and destination and look at the prices. They all pretty much work about the same, just some give better rates than others.
P.S. Sometimes it is actually better to do it yourself and call the airline to talk to a rep as well as call the hotel and talk to someone. Feel free to try and haggle with them some or get the best rate out of them. It is usually not all that hard. Best bargaining chip is to just say you will go elsewhere.

I find orbitz is always the cheapest. You can do flexible dates & they show u a calender w/ prices so u can pick the cheapest. & believe me, I used to work for US airways & all the airlines websites usually can’t match the search sites like orbitz & expedia & travelocity.

It is relative which is cheapest. You have to visit several major sites to find the best deal. You can find the list of the biggest sites on pointandtravel.com below … Coupons and specials by major sites are below that …

I have just published a booklet called, “Jim’s Guide to cheap travel in Europe- What a travel agent won’t tell you!” and it represents over 17 years of European travel experience by my wife and myself. I was an exchange teacher in Europe and learned a lot of the methods while there. Since I have been retired we go to Europe or elsewhere 2 months out of the year, and we typically spend less in one month than most American travelers do in 10 to 14 days. We don’t backpack or stay in hostels and we have a great time. I decided it would be good to pass this information on and my booklet is the method.
